Recipe: Easy Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer

10/13/2020

Picture
If you're like me then one of your favourite times of the year is when the the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks. Over the years more coffee shops here in the UK have adopted this seasonal drink and you can now find it in other coffee shops such as Coffee #1 and even Greggs!

I will admit I am quite fussy when it comes to Pumpkin Spice coffee and if it's not as good as the Starbucks flavour then it's a no from me, which is why I decided to try and create something myself that can easily be whipped together in less than ten minutes and will mean you can have Pumpkin Coffee any time of the year.

Over the past few weeks I have been looking into other recipes on how to make a nice creamer and after quite a bit of tweaking I feel like this is the best I can make it! So here it is, my own Pumpkin Spice Creamer. Luckily this year Asda has decided to stock tinned Pumpkin, along with Sainsburys (who seem to have it all year) so if you're struggling to find pumpkin, try there first. If you have no luck, Amazon is your friend. Oh and if you don't have pumpkin spice available just mix up 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger and 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves. Increase the quantities to make a nice large batch and maybe keep a jar in the cupboard throughout the year?

Picture
You will need:
250ml of heavy cream
250ml of Milk
4 tablespoons of soft brown sugar
2 table spoons of tinned pumpkin (or use the soft flesh from a fresh pumpkin, blended)
1 tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla

In a saucepan add the pumpkin pie spice, sugar, vanilla, pumpkin and half of the milk over a medium heat. Whisk together until the milk is just about to boil.

Remove from the heat and add the remaining milk and cream and whisk together until it is all full mixed. The creamer should be fairly cool at this point so you can easily place it into a small jug, bottle or container and then leave in the fridge.

You can use this right away in your hot drinks or leave over night for everything to really fuse together in the fridge. Be sure to give the creamer a little mix before use and only keep for around 4-5 days.

9/28/2020

Picture
I cannot believe it's the very start of October this week! Sadly that does mean that this weeks Seven Spooky Things is the last but it's going to be a bumper fun issue!

This week will be less about making and more about having fun, decorating and getting ready for the spookiest month of the year. So if you're after ideas on how to make your home ready for Halloween then you're in luck as there are weeks and weeks of Seven Spooky Things for you to now check out.

Let's get the final Seven Spooky Things for Halloween 2020 started!

Picture
Monday

Let's start the final week with one little make. This super easy pom pom ghost garland is adorable and would look great across your walls, fireplace, doors and more this Halloween!

You can easily make one of these in an hour or two and you can check out just how to make one right here.

Picture
Tuesday

One of my favourite instagram accounts @Notebookofghosts has created an awesome reading challenge for you all this October. 31 Spooky Stories (or 13 if you would prefer) is a month long challenge to read 31 short spooky stories.

It's can easily be done and is also a fun way for you to celebrate Halloween. You could even read to others or just curl up with a nice hot drink, chunky blanket and get lost in a haunting tale 13-31 nights of the month.

You can find out even more details on how to take part via the Notebook of Ghost blog post right here.

Wednesday

It's officially the last day of September, we're now over a week into Autumn and the best month starts tomorrow. So if you haven't already, today we're going to be decorating.

Grab all of the decorations your have available and get decking the halls with all things spooky. Have you created a theme this year? Well now it's time to put it into motion and celebrate because October is finally here!

Thursday

It has finally arrived! October is BACK and today also kick starts 31 Frightful Films For 31 Nights! This list of films has been put together by myself and are a bunch of the most popular films suggested by you! A few weeks ago I asked you (via the October 31st Facebook page and group) what films you like to watch throughout October and you gave the best responses!

My question also had another motive and that was to put these films together and create a list of films we can all watch throughout October and here it is. What's more is that I will be watching five of these films with you all and throughout our watch party ill be asking you a few questions. Save your answers and email them in for your chance to win a prize.

Unfortunately these films will not be streamed due to piracy laws, but with that being said I have selected some of the most popular films to watch along with you all that hopefully you will already own or can easily access via Netflix, Amazon Prime or Disney+.

The first film to kick start the month will be Hocus Pocus! We'll be watching this together at 8pm and all you will need to do is join the chat with a picture of your film ready to go. Then we'll chat online throughout the film, i'll ask a few Hocus Pocus questions, save the answers and once the film has ended you can send them in for your chance to win the prize (which will be revealed the day before the watch along night occurs).

The winner will be revealed during the next watch along night. Whats more is that everyone who emails in will also be entered into a prize draw for another mystery prize which will be revealed on Halloween!

So grab your copy of Hocus Pocus and let's get watching tonights first Frightful Film!

Friday

Almost all stores within the UK will now be stocked with loads of spooky tricks and treats so today we're going to go SHOPPING!

Grab your haunted shopping bags and let's go out to see what treats we can find. You can also check out a handy list of all stores that currently have Halloween goodies in store or online right here.

Picture
Saturday

Pumpkin Spice Lattes and Frappuccinos might be back at Starbucks (as of writing this i've already had 3) but do they have Candy Corn milkshakes? Didn't think so!

This quick and easy recipe for Candy Corn milkshakes required no Candy Corn at all but looks super cute (and tasty) you only really need vanilla ice cream and food colouring to put this together. It would make a great October beverage this month. Why not top it off with Halloween sprinkles that you should now be able to find from most supermarkets?

Check out the full how to right here.

Sunday

As it's the last day of the week and also because today marks... the last day of Seven Spooky Things for Halloween 2020, I though today would be a great time to re-post both of the free activity packs that were created during UK lockdown and also the newly released Halloween Zine from The Samsain Society.

All 3 of the files below are free to download. The activity packs are a zip file which contain all kinds of makes, puzzles, colouring pages and more! The zine is also a PDF which you should be able to download easily to your computer or phone. These are great little things to read and make throughout October and I will be releasing more packs in the future too!

To everyone who has read all of this years Seven Spooky Things posts I cannot thank you all enough for checking them out, sharing and tagging me in all of your pics to do with these posts (and the packs below). I hope you all have a wonderful October and if you make anything from the SST blog posts then please do continue to tag me as I absolutely love seeing them.

Stay safe, stay well and most of all Stay Spooky!

Missing Halloween and the month of October? Me too! So from now until Halloween, each week they'll be a new 'Seven Spooky Things' post to ensure you can add a bit of Halloween to your day 365 days a year.

These Seven Spooky Things should keep you well spooked from September 14th to September 20th.

There is only 1 Seven Spooky Things blog post left before they end and October arrives! Eeek!

Check out all of this weeks daily tasks below:

Picture
Monday

We're starting this week with less of a make and more of an idea for a future make! These adorable woodland pumpkins are made using felt and card and can be put together in less than 30 minutes!

This is such a great idea for decorating this Halloween and also just for Autumn! Maybe decorated your pumpkins like this for Autumn and then carve them out with a scary design for Halloween?

Find out how to make this cute little fox along with more woodland creature designs right here.

Tuesday

Today actually marks the first official day of Autumn! The best time of year has finally arrived and we can now look forward to cooler weather, cosy nights wrapped in blankets, sweaters and comfort food!

So let's celebrate the first day of Autumn with these Pumpkin Spiced Chocolate Chip Cookies! If you love cookies in general, then you will love these too!

Check out how to make these delicious treats right over here.

Picture
Wednesday

Now is the perfect time to start stocking up on all of that wonderful Halloween candy. A large amount of stores will be stocking all kinds of seasonal treats right now what better way to store them, than with these Candy Corn mason jars?

Todays make is quick and easy but they look great. They would make the perfect table decoration or just look great on your shelves, filled with all kinds of wonderful sweet treats.

You can read up on how to make your own Candy Corn Mason Jars right here.

Thursday

Now that Autumn is well and truly here, you'll want to be decorating your home to reflect the seasonal change that is already happening outside. If like me, you like to fill your home with autumnal treats including pillows, blankets and decorative items around the place, then you'll love todays make.

This easy tutorial will show you how to make Halloween ornaments for you a seasonal indoor tree. The easiest part is the branch as all you'll need is an old tree branch that you think would be perfect to hang small, light decorations on. Grab this and remove any loose bits from the branch, then paint it any colour you desire.

You can then make your very own hanging autumnal decorations by checking out all of the steps right here.

Picture
Friday

I love a good wreath! If it's bursting with all kinds of autumnal colours and accents then I am all over it and this wreath is no exception.

When I first came across this tutorial, I actually thought this would be quite complicated to put together but to my surprise it's actually extremely easy and quick. The majority of the wreath is made from tied ribbons, with the tassle ghosts being the final, easy touch too.

If I hadn't of ordered myself a new wreath for the door this year already, I would be all over this!

Saturday

The weekend is officially here and for this week we're going to take it easy. Today we're reading and tomorrow we're watching. So you can put your feet up and release with todays article. The wonderful Halloween Haiku has put together a list of Fun Alternatives to Going Out this Halloween and for some of you this article is going to be a big help.

So many of you are concerned Halloween is over this year and that it's been cancelled. Halloween can never be cancelled and just because it won't be the same as what we're used to does not mean it's gone completely. There are many ways to celebrate the best time of the year and the article above will help you to do just that!

Picture
Sunday

To end the week we're watching The Village. This Village was released in 2004 and was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

The film follows a small village that is under strict rule to never leave. Just beyond the boundaries of the village are monsters that will attack and kill anyone who tries to leave. However as time goes on the villagers start to become suspicious of what exactly is keeping them there.

I personally really enjoyed this film and the twist towards the end was a nice surprise. If you have never seen The Village before then I would definitely say it's worth a watch but be warned... you'll either love it or hate it.

Recipe: Pumpkin Spice Fudge Dumplings

9/19/2020

Picture
If you love Pumpkin Spice then you will love these! Pumpkin Spice Dumplings are a quick and easy treat that I created a couple of weeks ago and ended up devouring the whole batch.

Since making these I have created different variations for these which I have suggested at the bottom of this recipe for those of you who fancy a little different taste to your sweet dumplings.

They take less than an hour to make and can also be made completely vegan. I can see myself making these for many years to come and will most likely be eating even more of these throughout October. Find out how to make your very own Pumpkin Spice Fudge Dumplings below:

Picture
You will need:
2 Tablespoons of brown sugar
1/2 Teaspoon of salt
1 Teaspoon of ground cinnamon (sweet cinnamon preferable)
3/4 Teaspoon of ground ginger
1/2 Teaspoon of ground cloves
250g Self Raising Flour
2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
Water
Fudge Cubes

First you'll need to preheat the oven to 190 Degrees C/375 Degrees F/ Gas Mark 5.

Sieve the flour into a bowl and add all of the spices, sugar and salt into the flour. Mix together and then add the oil. Mix once again and then with a jug of cold water, add a small amount to the mix and keep mixing more water into the mix until you get a dough that isn't sticky but easy to roll. You might need to use your hand to really mix it all together but try not to mix it too much as you'll remove all of the air from the dough.

Once mixed tear off a small amount and roll out into a circle (The diameter of a standard mug) around 1cm thickness and place one cube of fudge into the centre of your rolled out dough. Wrap the dough around the fudge cube to make a ball. Continue to do this until you have no dough left.

Place the dumplings onto some greaseproof paper and place into the oven for around 20-25 minutes. You'll want them to rise to a good height but don't take them out too early as they will sink. The fudge inside will melt during cooking to create a nice runny centre. I did sprinkle my dumplings with a little brown sugar before placing into the oven but this is completely optional.

Once they have risen take them out the oven and leave to cool for around 5 minutes. I do recommend serving these as soon as possible to enjoy the runny fudge centre. Enjoy!

Extra suggestions:
Why not place a marshmallow and cube of chocolate inside the dumpling to make pumpkin spice S'mores dumplings instead?
Another great way to enjoy these is either making Cinnamon Frosting or even Pumpkin Spice Cream Cheese Frosting. Place this over the dumplings or in a small bowl for easy dipping!

Vegan Options:
Replace the inside with any vegan alternative to make these 100% vegan. The dumpling mix itself uses no animal products so it's already vegan.

Watch Films, Win Prizes This October With 31 Frightful Films For 31 Nights!

9/18/2020

Picture
October is very nearly here and as a lot of us will be celebrating at home this year, why not celebrate together online?

A few weeks ago I asked on Facebook via the October 31st page and group what your go-to Halloween films are to watch throughout October and i've taken those films to create 31 Frightful Films For 31 Nights!

Throughout October you'll have a new suggested film to watch each night with five of those films having the option to watch along together. A live chat will be created for all of those to join in and throughout the film i'll be asking a small number of questions for you to answer.

At the end of the film you can send in your answers to all questions asked during the film and then the winner will be announced during the next Watch Along night! Each question will appear for only ten minutes and then will be removed so you've got to be watching along for your chance to win otherwise you'll miss it. During the film we can also chat, play some extra little games and just have a fun spooky time online together.

The most popular films that were suggested do appear more than once and we'll be kick starting October by watching the most popular suggested film on the list Hocus Pocus. I have also tried to select films that everyone should hopefully be able to access easily whether that be through Amazon Prime, Disney+, Netflix or maybe you just own them on dvd/blu ray already. Unfortunately these films will not be streamed live due to piracy laws.

Check out the full list of 31 Frightful Films below and also the five Watch Along films we'll be watching together too! Prizes for each night will be revealed the day before we watch each film together and prizes will all be sent at the end of the month.

Monday

It's another new week which means another new week of all kinds of tricks and treats!

We're starting this week by making these quick, but fun Halloween Soap Bottles. I recently managed to get my hands on some Halloween soaps but as these only seem to be available during spooky season, these bottles are a great way to have spooky soap all year long!

Find out how to make your very own soaps right here.

Tuesday

I don't know about you but I love, love, loveee Mexican food and if there's Halloween themed Mexican food then I am even more for it!

Today we're putting a quick and easy (spooky) twist on Quesadillas by making them as Jack'O-Lanterns. These are quick and easy to make, extremely yummy and would look great at your next Halloween party.

Check out all the details right here.

Wednesday

When witches go riding and black cats are seen, these black cat sock decorations only take fifteen... minutes to make and they look fangtastic.

If you've got some old black socks lying around (or maybe buy a new cheap pair) then you're already on your way to making these adorable black cat sock decorations. You could even mix this up with different coloured spooky socks and have a whole gang of spooky cats!

You can find out all the details right here.

Picture
Thursday

These are quite simply... adorable! And as with most makes I come across, are also easy and quick to make.

These cute little jack-o'lantern pouches would make the perfect little treat for your trick or treaters this year. You could even use these to play a fun little hide and eek game around your home and garden or just to give out as spooky gifts. Plus you can design as many different faces as you like so everyone has a unique little cutie!

All of the steps on how to make your very own little Jack-o'lantern pouch can be found right here.

Friday

Friday night is this weeks movie night and tonight we're watching The Thing!

Released in 1982, The Thing was directed by John Carpenter and follows the story of a research team in Antarctica who are being hunted down by a shape-shifting alien that can take on the appearance of it's victims.

This one definitely is not for kids buts totally worth a watch. The film is tense, surprising and scary! I have only actually watched this film recently but after checking it out, it's made me wonder why it took me so long to watch it as it's such a great film.

Picture
Saturday

Halloween is very quickly approaching and even after so many Seven Spooky Things blog posts, I still feel like i'm no where near ready.

Today we're making paper rosettes! These vintage style decorations are cheap, quick and easy! They're a load of fun to put together and really do look great. If you're not feeling the centre designs, why not find images you do like or draw up your own pictures to make a truly unique display this Halloween.

Read up on all the steps right here.

Picture
Sunday

Your final make is here! This weeks last make are these awesome vintage style tassels. They're an easy make but do require a drill to put everything together, so now might be a good time to invest in a new tool!

These would look great placed all around the home or in bunches of all different colours. I'm going to be attempting to make these myself this Halloween too and will most likely keep them out all year.

You can find out how to make your very own right here.

Monday

We're starting this week with a quick and easy make. These hanging bat bell jars are made by printing and cutting out these different bat silhouettes and then stringing them together to make them look like they're flying around the jars.

For those of you who don't have a bell jar at hand then why not substitute this for a large jar? Either way they look great and are such a simply make to put together.

Find out more details right here.

Today we're making and baking! With Autumn less than a month away, it's getting closer to the best time of the year where it's all about cosy jumpers, curling up with a book or in front of the tv and lots and lots of nice warming foods!

This recipe for Pumpkin Pie is easy to whip together and tastes great. I recently tried Pumpkin Pie for the very first time and absolutely loved it. I can definitely see myself making it for many, many years to come each Aututmn.

So if you've never made it before or even if like me, you've never tried it before then lets get making this today! Find out the full recipe right over here.

Wednesday

Another easy make for the middle of the week today and it's another cheap one too! Today's fake Crow Taxidermy diy can easily be put together with things you can grab from Poundland and other budget stores.

The article also shows you how to make extra wall-worthy treats too including decorative spider plaques and spiderweb dream catchers!

Head right on over to here to see how to make your own decorative treat.

Thursday

I absolutely love spooky shadowboxes and this one is no exception. This can easily be put together with things from your local craft store (Hobbycraft will definitely be your friend for the box) and it won't take you long to make either.

One thing I love about this is the use of the battery tealight candle, when placed behind the haunted house silhouette the windows flicker and glow.

You can find out all the details on how to make your very own haunted house shadow box right here.

Friday

Continuing with Tuesdays Pumpkin Pie recipe, I stumbled across this easy Pumpkin Pie Garland craft project too which I think looks really great.

It would be a nice little autumnal decoration in your home, especially in your kitchen and as it's easy to store away after use, you can use it year after year. Maybe use this to decorate your dining room when having guests over for an autumnal feast.

You can read up on all the details on how to make your own garland right here.

We're going to end the makes this week with how we started this week... and that's with another Bat DIY.

This Hanging Bat Table Centrepiece looks complicated but it's actually another really easy make, with the majority of the items required possibly already being available within your home.

This is designed to hang above your dining room table however if that's not something you're up for, why not place the branches inside glass jars and bottles instead? To make your own hanging bats just click right here.

Sunday

It's the last day of the week and we're going to close this week with a movie night. This weeks film is the incredible Scream. Released in 1996 Scream has become a cult hit and is one of the best slasher films around.

It's personally one of my favourite films and the 3 sequels that followed are also great too.

Scream focuses on Sidney Prescott whose own mother was murdered a year ago and must try and survive a new killer who is out to get her and her friends.

If you've never seen any of the Scream films before then you're in for a treat as they'll leave you wondering who the killer is from start to finish. Once you've watched all four films (Scream 5 is also being released in 2022) why not check out the TV show too? Although no where near as good as the films, all three seasons are fun to watch and you can even check out a Halloween special episode too.

Review: Pumpkins and Party Themes Is Here To Save Halloween!

The end of Summer is creeping closer and closer and the spookiest time of the year is just around the corner. With Covid-19 this years plans for Halloween might not be what you're used to but for those of you who are worried about what to do for the spookiest night of the year, fear not! As Roxanne Rhoads has released a brand new book bursting with so many tricks and treats for you to sink your teeth into and make sure this years Halloween is the spookiest one yet. Covid be damned!

Pumpkins and Party Themes contains 10 different spooky themes and each one includes five different DIY Makes. What's more is that each theme also has additional suggestions on what else you can include, key props you can use and even films to watch to really make sure your entire set up is a huge hit.

To kick start your creativity and to also create a spooky mood for making, Rhoads begins the book with a brief history of Pumpkins, Jack-O'Lanterns and the legend of Stingy Jack (which if you have never heard of him before, where have you been?). There are also carving tips for real and artificial pumpkins, what tools to use and handy tips on how to carve the perfect image into your Jack-O'Lantern. The Roasted Pumpkin Seeds recipe is a great snack to create before making everything too, as you can munch away while you're creating your party theme.
An Alice in Wonderland inspired theme, Steampunk theme, Gothic Elegance theme and even a Witchy theme (which is my personal favourite) are all included within this book. Each section is broken down into five makes, with additional ideas and even a colour palette for you to work from to create even more makes that fit the theme perfectly. If you're stuck for costumes, well you're in luck as those are covered too.

With Pumpkins and Party Themes, not only does it include a full breakdown on how to make everything but each make is fully illustrated with additional decorating ideas showcased within the images. This was actually a great way to spark new ideas for even more makes to add to your chosen theme.
If you're not planning on having a party this year or don't fancy decorating much at all, then the many different pumpkin carving designs within the 176 pages will help you to at least carve the perfect pumpkin design for your potential trick or treaters. Stencils are included at the back of the book too and the handy tips will make sure your Jack-O'Lantern is the spookiest pumpkin around.

Overall this really is a wonderful book to own and it's bursting with so many wonderful ideas, tips and tricks to help you create a perfect Halloween. Even if you don't have a theme in mind, you could very easily mix different ideas together to create a unique theme yourself and it's pretty much guaranteed that while reading through Pumpkins and Party Themes you'll be coming up with unique ideas yourself. This is one book worthy of your bookshelf and one that is guaranteed to be used year after year.

Pumpkins and Party Themes is available now from Amazon UK, Amazon USA, IndieBound, Barnes and Noble and Target.
